Gary Chapman is very Christian based and this book is amazing IF you have a spouse that is willing to read the book and work on your marriage. There are a lot of great points in the book IF your spouse is not willing to work on the marriage that will reassure you that certain behavior and treatment is just not acceptable nor biblical. If you are reading this review, you are likely in tough times. God bless you on your journey.

I am only about 3/4 the through the book (audiobook). So far it has given me numerous things to acknowledge about myself. After-all, the only person we are truly able to change--is ourselves. The gap between the two of us has gotten so wide, I didn't think there was any hope for a bridge let alone a closeness again. Not just that, but also examples of how to really begin again. And Gary quotes exact scriptures to help me along the way. Love is a decision, not just a feeling. GOD bless you for searching for help & not just throwing in the towel.

I love love the The Five Love Languages, but this book is awful. My husband and I reading it together and even he has problems with some it. Definitely don’t read this with your spouse if they have cheated on you, because it’s as if he is validating the adulter rather the victim. Also, it seems to put most of the blame or responsibility of saving the marriage on the wife. Be very very careful before reading this with your spouse. So far it hasn’t helped my husband and I at, but rather has made things worse.

I purchased this book with high expectations that were unmet. The appropriate title should read "Its the wife's job to fix any and all problems". I do not recommend this book if you truly wish to give it one more try.

One More Try... My husband and I are recently separated. These past few weeks have been the hardest of my life, but through this I have drawn so much closer to God. It's a whole new level. I feel complete peace and joy, trusting like never before that God will fulfill His promise to me. This is the only book I know of that deals with Christians who are currently separated or close to divorce. It supports reconciliation if possible, and peace when not possible. This book is great for anyone who does not want a divorce, but doesn't have a choice. Learn how to forgive your spouse and yourself despite the outcome of your marriage. Be strong, Brothers and Sisters. Give Him all your brokenness and HE WILL RESTORE. He is the potter, we are the clay. Let Him mold you into a vessel for Him. { Romans 8:28 }

Ok so I have read alot of Chapman books and this one has to be his worst. Not that I am an agnostic but the religious demeanor in which this book is written is a serious turn off. The book pretty much says if you don't believe in Christ and you're not a Christian that giving it one more try really isn't going to work

I loved the 5 Love Languages, so I read this whole book thinking, "I'm sure he is going to get to the 'How To' any minute now." He never did. There is no advice. No step by step directions. NOTHING. This book is useless.

I have been a fitness nut all my life, yet last year a combination of a reaction prescription drugs and latent back problems landed me on crutches...two back surgeries, 9 months now of physical therapy and still walking on two canes. It was all getting deep into my head. Last week I heard Barry Ritholz on Bloomberg interview Ryan Holiday and discuss this book, which I promptly purchased. It has helped immensely in a single week to refocus and avoid a total flame out. I read the Stoics in college and later, but they never "spoke to me" like they do now. It is fundamentally a philosophy of coping. I still hang on to Charles Spurgeon, but so much of that is about what comes later; I needed something to help me with today. Interestingly, in reading through it (and half a dozen others I purchased since then), I have pondered how much we have drifted from our Graeco-Western traditions. The Founding Fathers were steeped in this stuff, but somewhere along the way we have all become tethered to the whims of feelings, including other's feelings, and the Stoics had the solution to these thousands of years ago. I can't control those, and so I don't allocate my precious limited resources to them. So I work around them. Adapt. The Media in this country inundates us with such distraction (the topic of another book by this author, which I also bought). What would a Stoic say to someone who says they "don't feel safe?" Probably tell them to take action within their control to be safe and give up on demanding that the entire world respond out of guilt, badgering or whatever to appease your feelings. Brilliant idea to ask seven gifted authors to write from the different perspectives of the six wives plus Henry. I felt the hope, struggles and ultimate despair of each of these unique women and carried these with me each time I had to put the book down. After I finished reading each queen's story, I also found myself searching on-line for more information, noting the facts that the authors threaded into their accounts.As the mother of a teenage daughter, I was especially horrified by what happened to the young Catherine Howard (beheaded at 16-17 years old) and how they carried her out of the palace toward her death kicking and screaming. Interesting that historians' perspectives on the young Catherine Howard have begun to shift in recent decades; she is perceived less as a whore and more as possibly the victim in the male-dominated relationships that led to her death. (Park's perspective in Fatal Throne is somewhere in between the two, leaning towards the latter.)I would highly recommend this to high school students interested in this period of time, especially young women. As a teacher, attempting to recommend books to students, I think I'd book talk this and leave for students to borrow. (You could read bits and pieces from Catherine Howard's chapter--because she was a teenage girl and your students might connect.) This might also make for amazing student-led conversations. Discussion questions might include, "How does each queen try to maintain some control of her own identity and sense of agency?" and "What is the effect of these attempts?" and "How are these women mirrors to what we see in the world now?"While I was reading this book, I went to see a play version of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility." Wow. Three hundred years later...women were not beheaded, but the struggle to survive in a man's world was still real. And another two hundred years later, now, the struggle continues--in some places in the world in very similar ways, in other places, in very different ways. Lots of room for conversation with this book in hand.

I absolutely loved this book. I love that the short stories about the queens were each written by different authors. All of them start out at the end of the Queen's reign, with flashbacks. They are pretty much historically accurate.

"Fatal Throne: The Wives of Henry 8 Tell All" is a highly entertaining & a well thought out novel. The way this book is written is most unique, as each of these royal ladies are portrayed by a different author & another writer gives the King's point of view. The effect of this style helps to delineate each Queen as a separate special woman & impresses the reader of the variety in their outlooks on life and humanity of each unfortunate lady. I heartily recommend this novel for those who enjoy excellent historical fiction!

While this book is readable,it really tends to turn the women into caricatures. It doesn’t seem likely that Katherine of Aragon spent her time muttering about God in Spanish, for example. There are much better books about the six wives that give much deeper clues to their characters without making them into stereotypes.

I loved that each wife has her own very distinctive voice — it makes history more real.

This was a fascinating look at the six women who crossed paths with a cruel despot. I felt for all six and will reread this from time to time.

With real world examples of how emergence strategies can help us work smarter and not harder, to bring more presence, aliveness, joy and hope into our efforts to make the world, and our everyday lives, better. adrienne maree brown is truly masterful at weaving together threads of different political, social, economic, spiritual, and even science fiction theories into a very accessible guide for anyone who seeks to participate in changing the world.

I’ve never read a book in this genre. My usual reading is books on business, self-improvement, innovation, creativity, and science fiction. I picked it up after my partner recommended it, and I noticed there were connections made to sci-if authors like Octavia Butler. In this book I encountered a radically different vision of what the future could look like, and a radical path of healing and emergence and growth that could make that future happen. I’m deeply inspired by the diversity and courage of the ideas in this book, which are a clear reflection of the diversity and courage of movement building. This book is going to have a profound impact on my work, which is about building a movement of self-aware individuals transforming people’s relationship to their work, performing it as a form of growth and self-expression instead of as an obligation. I usually inhale books quickly in one sitting. Not this! I've never sent more quotes from a book about more topics than this one. It's part permission to be human, alive. It's beautiful scientific research on ecosystems and other species who have much to teach us. It's the role of sci-fi/fantasy books and writing in ways to achieve justice. It's beautiful poetic prose, word mandalas, new ideas constantly shifting like in a kaleidoscope.And I worried, "Oh no, will she give some PRACTICAL HOW TO? Because I am dazzled by the ideas and starting to lose faith that I would ever be able to do this with friends. She'll lose a star for describing these concepts if I don't have some guidance!Never fear, she clearly explains how to do these paradigm shifts. So often it was mentioned that in any group of people there's a conversation that only they can have, an important one. Yet I've sat through many meetings well aware that most of us don't know why we bothered to show up.She delivers the goods! Easy to understand and clear to follow.Also she has an amazing way of packing a lot of necessary information into manageable chunks. The interviews with others mostly helped me see that others she works with aren't copy cats. There's a lot of great teaching from her teachers that stand out, so you're not just reading her ideas, skills, experience but those of others. It's like being in a conversation.She successfully gets these important, new messages across in different ways, so if one section is confusing, another should help you access it. Maybe not all of the book is for you, but it's written to reach different people - which you'd expect from a great facilitator.I'd love to read a book about romantic and one to one friendships by her!

I'm the executive director of a small non-profit and have been looking for some good books on strategy. consensus building, achieving the mission, etc. I purchased this book the quick advice of another executive director of a small non-profit. Although it's based on some good, creative ideas, I found this book to be unhelpful to me. I found that it repeats itself and meanders. It basically says, "Rethink conventional structures and be sure to collaborate," over and over again. It introduces concepts of community building and social change based on biomimicry but I don't find it convincing in this regard. We should run our communities like mycelium and fractals? Hm? Even knowing a little bit about these natural systems and how they work, I don't agree with the parallels the author wants to draw to them. Lots of systems exist in nature -- apex predators, for example -- but that doesn't mean we should model ourselves after them. In any case, I really wanted to like the book and I stuck with it up to about page 56, but I gave up. Just not for me.
