It's gotten the job done for my CHP 200 class. It's also very informative if you really enjoy public health. It will keep your interest and you could read the whole book if given the time. It's interesting to see how the role of public health differs from public perception. If you're interested in any type of medical administration I​ suggest this book.

I purchased this book from a different seller and it was taking for ever so I purchased from this seller and arrived so quickly. Thank you thank you! The book is an easy read, terminology is not difficult and a wealth of information for my course. Nice book over all.

This was a great book. I bought it for a class I was enrolled in. HCS/457 University of Phoenix 2013 / and found myself wanting to read even more. The book was laid out in a format that made it fun to read. It offered real life examples and references to past cases of public health events. Whether for class or recreation, this was a good book.

I rented this book from Amazon for a class I'm taking. The rental is perfectly fine, if I was reviewing for that, I'd give it 4.5 stars. There is very little writing and highlighting. The only reason I'd give it 4.5 instead of 5 is that the supplemental disk isn't with it. I haven't needed it, but it would be nice to have if I wanted it.This 3 star review is for the book itself. It's okay, but it's very badly laid out for someone who knows nothing about public health. I'm taking this class online which means I have to learn from the textbook, something this book is not conducive to doing. The key terms often don't give a solid definition, the sections often don't really go with the headings and have random sentences that would have been better placed in another section. There are a ton of footnotes, many of which should probably be an actual part of the text and the boxes/tables/figures are often unnecessary and have you flipping back and forth in the chapter.If I were reading this as a novel or as a review of concepts you already know, the layout would be fine but as a textbook, these issues make it very difficult on the person trying to learn.

A different view of home decor

Great for ideas

I’ve got to say it: Look at the sub-title of this book – ‘A Source book of Decoration and Design’. It sure is!The ‘Introduction’, pages 9-15, begins by describing how this book came into being by defining what ‘Oriental’ means. On page 9, “This book will identify what constitutes ‘Oriental’ style both traditional and contemporary, in a variety of indigenous settings, from the relatively well-known ones of China and Japan to the less accessible cultures of Korea, Thailand, Bali, and Tibet. It is important to stress that there is no single, definitive ‘Oriental’ style, but rather a wealth of diverse treatments and approaches… (which) range from the authentic imitation of traditional interiors to the exuberant, eclectic blending of arts and artifacts from a variety of sources. These diverse themes have been adopted or adapted by Europeans and Americans to create their own, highly personal interpretations of ‘Oriental’ style.”This style includes Frank Lloyd Wright’s idea of organic architecture through his identification of Japan in the Arts and Crafts Movement. Following this were the wars with Japan and the Koreas, and then in dealing with countries like Singapore and Hong Kong. All of these ideas, places, and things have influenced how people define what is ‘Oriental’ and how they create it in their homes.This 1990 hard-cover book has 224 semi-glossy pages, many of which have at least 1 color or black and white photo per page.Of these ‘Oriental’ countries mentioned above, I have visited China, Japan, Thailand, Bali, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The last 4 – many times. Being in these countries has influenced my own ideas of ‘Oriental’ style.The authors are Michael Freeman, Sian Evans, and Mimi Lipton. The lead author, Freeman, has a master’s degree in geology from Oxford, has done photography in major magazines, such as the Smithsonian, and he’s written several books.This is a Bulfinch Book, Boston/ Thames and Hudson Ltd, London.The ‘Contents’ breaks down more Japanese cultural elements. There are 5 main sections. Look at the following pages to see some of the things that ended up in our home as a ‘variation on a theme’, in one way or other, of the following pages: 63-64, 88, 90, 95, 105, 114, 116, 123, 140, 148-149, 159, 164, 170, 188-189, and 199.This is an outstanding book for anyone who wants to learn about ‘Oriental’ living, cut in with a hybrid-western interpretation. This book won’t remain on your bookshelf; it will end up on your coffee table to pick up, page through, and dream.I would give this book 10 stars if I could!

Studying this book made me appreciate the great job done by most editors of style and design source books. This particular book falls short of the standard set by Asian style gurus like Tan Hock Beng and Barbara Walker.While this book is chock-a-block with professional photos of beautiful objets d'art and of sumptuous east-meets-western-interior-decorator homes, it comes off as an unsorted pile of images; the editorial vision never gets far beyond, "hey, y'all, check out this neat-lookin' stuff!"One way the editor could have improved the flow of this book would have been to devote just one more pair of facing pages to each of the featured homes. Facing pages are used to some advantage to concentrate on one given home, but these photos sometimes seem disjointed together rather than harmonious. And far too much distance is put between the walls and the camera, so while the overall room can be studied, there is often a lack of up-close, detail shots.Positive elements: the traditional Japanese interiors are gorgeous, and there are nice shots showing how objects can be grouped; there are lots of hints on how to work east and west together.Negative elements: three categories of Oriental design and decoration as introduced in the preface are never referred to again; this could have been a way to organize the book! Reader is made to jump from a collection of ornate Chinese and Japanese armoirs (pages 104 - 105), to a variety of Asian bedroom interiors (pages 106 - 107), to 3 rooms of a contemporary Philippines residence (pages 108 - 109). ...it's annoyingly random. There are too many photos of antique shop displays (with overwhelming arrays of objects) with (get this) big price tags on the items, in plain view! If you love the cluttered look, this may not be objectionable, but if you want to see more actual examples of putting a design element to its best advantage, this book won't measure up. I found the examples of western homes using Asian artifacts to be odd, & even sometimes quite insensitive to the beauty of the pieces.To be sure, there are some lovely photos in here, and many of the pieces (individual design elements) are quite nice. I don't doubt that the average reader will find something here to be inspired by. But there is a general lack of order and subtlty, and far too many inappropriate juxtapositions of images on the same page.

This book is described as a sourcebook and that's what it is. It is certainly not an overview of Oriental furniture since the emphasis is on display and design. It is, however, a great book for those who wish to blend in some Oriental furniture in their Western homes.The title may be a bit misleading; the main part of the book concentrates on South-East Asian furniture and not so much on Japanese/Korean styles. Most of the furniture comes from Thailand, Burma and China.For those, like me, who live in that part of the world that is OK. The antiques available in Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong are mostly, in the affordable categories, from these countries.In particular, there is a wealth of Chinese old furniture on the market. And for those who think prices are a problem, forget it. We have picked up many cabinets from Chian around $ 750 and for similar amounts you go to a good furniture shop in BKK and have lovely pieces handmade for you from your own design ideas.Even if you don't live here, but are here on a visit you can easily buy and have it shipped ( we have done it for friends on quite a few occassions). The shipping rates are quite OK and allow you still to pick up some pieces at good prices.For amateurs like me, who simply wish to introduce some Asian elements in their homes this book is very valuable and gives many ideas, not in the least through the many photographs.

Worst reference book ever! It is organized by name, and not even last name, it's first name! There is no table of contents, index or cross-referencing of any kind ... NOT EVEN PAGE NUMBERS! Really? If all you want to do is read through it in idle interest, or if you are looking for quotes for a specific person then maybe it would have some use. But if you want to be able to efficiently find a specific person, or a quote on a particular subject, you are out of luck. I'm sending this back for a refund.

I am such an addict for books of this kind. I must have fifty or more. This one is a doozy. (Is that a word which shows old age?) By that I mean that it is a delight and a pleasure and a treasure and a keeper. I sat down for hours with it when I received it and had great fun circling the quotes which really resonated with me. Oh, one must circle the quotes -- otherwise how will you go back to find the ones you already bonded with, to make sure that you're quoting correctly at brunch with your new in-laws? (Here I suggest Mortimer Adler's classic HOW TO READ A BOOK, where he grants us permission to write all over the books we're reading, circling, underlining, starring, agreeing, disagreeing, posting our own ideas in response.) Generally, I do appreciate depth in most of what I read, but here brevity rules and carries wit along with it. Highly recommended for a good time.

I was a little disappointed when I received this book in the mail. It's a thin book containing various quotes of famous people with LOTS of empty white space between quotes. Not only that, but there are dozens of duplicate quotes throughout the book, some on the very same page. (Page 31 contains "I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship" twice).This is a very poorly edited book (not really even a book, but a print off of a bunch of quotes with a cover slapped on it: no index, no introductory, nothing). All of these quotes can be found online in various quote websites.I still give this 3 stars because I like having all the quotes printed off in front of me to quickly look through, but I'm sure there are much better quote books out there to get instead. I recommend spending your money on a better quote book that was actually edited, or just making your own collection of quotes from the Internet and printing them off to make your own book.

Worst book ive ever bought. 3000 quotes? I guess if you include the repeats....sometimes entire pages are just duplicated. I would return it if there were not a few I hadnt read. The worst. Very frustrating. Also the type set is horrible. Very small and spaced far apart. The book looks big. If you were to condense it to its actual content size with out repeat pages...it would be half the size.

Amazon, are you serious? How can you allow an e-book like this be offered for sale? There is no formatting which makes it impossible to read. This makes me wonder what kind of process Amazon has in place to ensure quality of items offered for sale in their Kindle Store. HELLO AMAZON...... REMOVE THIS ITEM..... ITS TOTAL GARBAGE!!!!

I was looking for more serious and important quotes from more intellectual originators. This does not come close, however it may please the casual reader.

This book is overpriced and not what I expected. There are MANY duplicate quotes.. too many to count. It's extremely annoying to read the same quote on multiple pages. Many quotes are political and of little interest to me. Honestly, I could have done a better job of selecting quotes from famous people and publishing a book. I'm not impressed with the Hagopian Institute and would never buy another one of their books. I'm just trying to warn consumers as I read only positive reviews and that's why I purchased this book. I feel like I was misled and misguided so I hope this review can help others avoid making the same mistake I did.

This is a reprint of the EXCELLENT 1958 edition. The writing style is magnificent. It looks wordy, but it's actually fun to read, easy to understand, and incredibly interesting. I've tried reading later editions from the library, but they had been "modernized" by the editor to the point that they had become directionless and overly wordy. This edition is strictly on chart patterns. No EMA, Stochastic oscillators, etc. If those are what you want to study, then see stockcharts.com. John Murphy's *Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets* is also an excellent book. His chapters on chart patterns are more modern and direct, and he includes some of the more mathematical indicators you can find at stockcharts.com, at least superficially, but Edwards and Magee [unmodified] is still the best and most readable book on chart patterns, in my opinion.

The best purchase I have made so far in the world of technical analysis. The content may be old, but is still relevant if you want to learn the basics of price action trading. Not a lot of fluff, just the kind of details on topics that most of us are already familiar with such as resistance, head-and -shoulder, etc... That will add value to your knowledge and give you an edge when trading these patterns. I will use this book as my main reference in the future. The book that I'm talking about here is the 5th edition.

Book arrived on time and in good condition. This is Fourth edition, published in 1957, not to be confused with the current edition, which sells for about $90.00. This one will do for the price difference. Quality is very good and will do unless one needs the more recent edition.

This is a review of the 9th edition. Please note that amazon has included this review for other editions as well. That is okay because I have something to say about them too, but you should be aware. The really old editions are probably out of copyright.I would not recommend this book unless you are into the "history of technical analysis". The focus of the book is classical patterns of bar charts. The book is absolutely not bad, but it's value is a bit dubious. Why read a book that have charts that are 1/2 century old? You can't be sure that things haven't changed, can you? So the newer editions also have more modern charts. However, this combination of old and new makes for a frustrating reading. Actually I would think most book deteriorate in quality after their 3rd edition.If you want a classic in your bookself I would really recommend you to buy a second-hand copy of the last edition written by Edwards & Magee alone. This would be the 5th edition. It has a very professional binding and clear white pages. The new edition is a very ugly and cheaply bound hardcover. This comment is only if you are into good looking books. You get the 5th edition for $5 at amazon, so it is a nobrainer!Addition in 2010: Edwards and Magee wrote a classic that has many editions. I bought one copy around 1984 and it was the first book in technical analysis that I read. I liked it a lot. With time other books have been written, but I still like this old book. Now mainly because it is a very pretty book. Expensive paper and a proper spine that will never break. It feels nice to touch. I value nice books if their content is classic. I bought the 9th edition just out of curiosity and I am displeased by it. There is a running commentary in sections by a new third author - the original authors long dead. The commentary is ridiculous. At one point he decides to call an upside down head-and-shoulder pattern for a kilroy patterns. Hello? We don't need comments on this level. The paper and binding is ugly (but not as bad as books from Wiley Finance - please use better paper in your expensive books!). So on all accounts a ** book. If you love books, go to abebooks and try to find an old beautiful copy instead, but they are no longer $5!

It’s not life changing since it’s so old but if you wanted to see the roots of many TA ideas, it’s right here. I think it’s less of a trading book and more of a history book at this stage. Would I recommend it? Only if you are trying to fill in some context issues in your technical analysis.

4 stars for the volume of thoroughly well researched examples and exhaustive coverage of basic patterns.This book is comprehensive but not complete. There is no information on some modern indicators or, for example, candlesticks or point and figure.I have the 8th edition.This book is good to have and I did learn valuable things from it but if you are only going to buy a few books, I would not recommend this as one of them.On the plus side, there are many many actual stock chart examples. That adds to the length in a good way.Writing style is very much early 20th century; leisurely rather than short and to the point.This book is geared toward stocks and commodities but not forex. (although the stock patterns also apply to forex)

My main reference used to be John Murphy's and Martin Pring's. This will be added in the lineup.
