This is my first Leesa Bow read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Charming the Outback has vivid descriptions of Broken Hill and the Aussie Outback, which I enjoyed. I haven’t been that far west, but this country girl could relate to a lot of the settings, having spent a lot of time on properties and in country towns myself.I really liked Maddy. Luke annoyed the crap out of me. It was a nice conclusion, though I thought Maddy had better chemistry with someone else in the story. You’ll have to read it to find out what I mean. Well executed 5 Stars.

Charming The Outback is a beautiful story filled with love, angst and determination. I loved watching Maddy and Luke grow both individually and together. Their story felt genuine and real.

This was just what I needed. Charming The Outback is a well rounded and robust romance with great characters and a love story that may be low on angst, but is high on gaining reader attention and providing enjoyment. This is the first book I have read by Leesa Bow, and even being a stand-a-lone, it features characters from another book, so if I’d read Winning The Player first, I would’ve enjoyed catching up with Aubree and Hunter again. I haven’t but I didn’t feel I was missing out on anything. This time we have Maddie who is Aubree’s best friend and Hunter’s cousin. She’s a total city girl from Adelaide, and owns her signature look of beautiful clothes and Jimmy Choos.Luke’s family heritage is a sheep station in the outback. It’s a long way from anywhere, hot, dusty and full of flies. It not a field of Geology which is what he really wants to do, but when family places a demand on him, it’s the family station life first and foremost with no time for shopping and high city living. He doesn’t believe Maddie would cope, and doesn’t want to force that life on her so he dumps her without a word and moves home.Things is, Maddie loves Luke, and wants to see if the Aussie Outback is something she can adapt to, so she takes a teaching contract in his small town to test the waters. But, the Luke she finds back in his home town isn’t the Luke she’d spent 10 months getting to know and love. He’s angry and doesn’t want a bar of her, trouble is, it seems the locals are quite taken with the new primary school teacher, and he doesn’t want anyone else near her either!Luckily for our couple, they’re supported by a great group of secondary characters especially as Maddie is out to prove to Luke that she isn’t the high maintenance city miss that he believes her to be, and that she’s more than capable to learn, change, and most of all, compromise. On his part, Luke has to realise his mistake in breaking things off in the way that he did, and make an attempt to fix things. I have to say I loved this book and if you are the type of reader who loves a good solid small town romance, then this is definitely for you. 4 Stars

After reading and loving Winning The Player last night, I needed more by Leesa Bow and couldn't wait to pick up Charming The Outback. I've spent the afternoon unable to put down this addictive 5 star read and have just finished it. The story of Maddy and Luke was emotional and the author writes in such a way that you're there with the characters every step of the way. I liked that Charming The Outback followed on from Winning The Player and we get to catch up with some of the characters, but this book can still be read separately and enjoyed just as much. However, I recommend that you read Winning The Player if you haven't already because you get to see how Maddy and Luke first met. Plus you'll learn more about Aubree and Hunter who are another couple you'll love just as much.Charming The Outback gives the reader a chance to learn more about the Australian outback so many of us have seen on the TV or in films. You'll see how tough life can be, but how everyone comes together and gets the job done. It was so warming to see how welcoming the locals were to Maddy, and the author gives us some lovely characters who become like friends to us just as much as they do to Maddy. Again, Leesa Bow weaves fact and fiction together so beautifully, and you can tell that she has first hand experience of being in Broken Hill. If I ever made it to Australia, I'd definitely want to visit Broken Hill and see the gorgeous sights that this very talented author allows us to visualise with her clever descriptions. As with Leesa Bow’s other books, this book is well worth the 5 stars I've awarded it. This author is one who I'd happily one click without even reading the blurb because I know I'm guaranteed a fantastic read!

The new addition is more clear on the how-to, less overwhelming. And they only recommend the curriculum that is tried and true. Less guess work.Parents do need to know that the authors mean for you to choose from among the recommendations. You are Not expected to fit in every single thing. They thought they made this clear, but they have recieved complaints about 6 or more hours of schoolwork every day.You are supposed to decide what is most important to you, or come up with a year-round schedule that balances it all.We save art and music, and science for Summer, but continue with math all year long. History and writing we do in the Fall/Winter.We use Dou-Lingo free online for Spanish. It is quick and is less involved than Rosetta Stone. My son is learning to speak Spanish from the neighbor kids he plays with, which is more a real-life application he can actually use, along with the formal word training he gets online.I also highly recommend the podcast downloaded for a small price from the authors' website. You'll see they are much more human and like the rest of us than the book makes you think they are. Its not meant to be heavy and grueling, or perfect and ideal. This is very doable if you catch the way it is intended to be used. This edition simplified it for me.The schedule recommendations, once I understood that they are just showing the different subject possibilities to choose from and I'm not actually supposed to do every one of them, are one of the most helpful features of this book. And the steps and how-to's were more clear this time around.

Love love love this book. I was a little hesitant to purchase since I have the older version, but there is so much that has been updated. The literature selections by grade level alone make this money well spent.

Wow... some funny reviews below. I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend whose homeschooled Kindergartner loves learning and has been reading for close to two years. I've been an English teacher for ten years and have grown increasingly disenchanted with both public and private schools; I've watched bright, creative, passionate young people have the love of learning sucked out of them by a flawed and over-burdened system, or, worse, fall between the cracks because they have learning differences, despite the fact that they have amazing minds. To the readers who assert that this book is for rigid, obsessive parents, I would urge them to read it again. It's not about rigidity, but about fostering excellence, which does take some hard work. I'm sure that this style of homeschooling is not for every child and every family, but it provides hundreds of resources, and I think there's something here for everyone. Granted, if you're not interested in a Classical approach, you may want to look elsewhere. But I would urge you to consider it, even if it sounds foreign or daunting. And now for my snotty asides: the reviews that are rife with spelling and grammar errors, and insist that the methods in this book are too demanding for children, are a bit hard to take seriously, you know? Other reviews are clearly written by parents who are intimidated because of how little education they themselves have... but the wonderful thing about homeschooling is that you get to learn WITH your children. It should be exciting to you, and if it's scary to confront all of the science, math, history and literature that you don't know, so much the better! Don't we want to teach our children to seek knowledge, and to try things that are difficult? And what better way to do that than to model it ourselves? If you are a lifelong learner, your children will be too.I have the greatest respect for those deeply religious Christians who indicated that while this book has much to offer, it's lacking in religious education, and they make up for on their own with Biblical study, many of whom include Biblical languages in said study.I have less respect for the reviewers who are worried that the lessons of "those evil Pagan Greeks" will teach their children to question. Here's my favorite quote from a reviewer below: "I pray God will open the blind eyes of those lusting after intelectualism (note the spelling error) and lead them to True Wisdom of God! What good is Homer and Shakespeare to the soul?"What good is Homer and Shakespeare to the soul!?! Don't you actually mean What good ARE Homer and Shakespeare to the soul? I don't even know how to begin to answer that. It's a clear case of "If you have to ask..."I begin to see why literacy rates amongst the middle class are declining, and most high school students will never take Calculus. Buy the book if you're a homeschooler or teacher interested in educating thoughtful, interesting, interested critical thinkers.

Background: I bought this book two years ago when my oldest was about 3. I did not read this cover to cover because it is not necessary to do so. This is a reference book. I read the parts that are important to us which are easy to find due to the well organized indexes and references provided in the book. I homeschooled my son's pre-K and we are getting ready to homeschool K this year. I followed many of the suggestions in this book, ignored others. I still feel this book was a great base to start out.About the book:It is intended as a comprehensive guide to choose homeschool curriculum for each academic year of your child's school years. They have a few recommendations for each topic and how to approach various subjects with flexibility.I don't believe you need to be a classical homeschooler to find this book a useful addition to your library. Whatever your homeschool philosophy it is always good to be informed about other ways of approaching teaching your children and having so many well organized resources in one place can come in handy sooner or later. You never know what will work for your child. You just have to try it and see.I know that many times I found myself googling "reading lists for preschoolers" to then remember they have a good list in this book by age. They have whole long pages on social interactions, time you should spend with your kids doing homeschool, learning reading before writing and so on.Highly recommend.

#89,235 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I see that there are a lot of conflicting reviews on this book, but I do think that they are mostly related to the ending. So first things first, if you haven't read this and hate cliffhanger endings, prepare to buy the next book(s) because this is one of the cliffiest hanging books ever! In spite of that, and in spite of the fact that I totally hate cliffhanger endings, I absolutely loved this book. It engaged me right from the peek inside, through the beginning and all the way to the end... which of course will take me into the next books. I thought that the characters were very realistic and well developed. Yes, the heroine is not the typical one. She is angrier than some, deadlier than most. She not only has to kill (done a lot) she enjoys it (much less done). She revels in it. Thrives in it. This lust to kill is a new aspect for a heroine - at least for me. Ms. May does this so well that you have both sympathy and respect for the heroine at the same time. It's masterfully done, and wonderfully written. As even those who hated the ending have noted, the romantic tension is super-potent! I'm not a fan of mushy romance. I like romance that is more subtle, or more involved... basically more realistic. Not easy. And this romance is anything but easy. It's virtually impossible. And conflict? Really? I don't think I've read a book with MORE conflict. This one has the fast pace, the amazing fight scenes, the thrilling nail-biting moments, and add a healthy dose of invention, engineering and science. Not only does the book have steampunk qualities, it delves into why. Into how the creating of a steam engine relates to the ability to fight the evil fae creatures. Pure genius. And I'm not generally even a steampunk fan. I may be now. This alternate-history, fantasy-reality blend is enchanting. It looks at the world and roles of women in historic Scotland and England, and turns it on its ear. This is like a new age suffragette coming-of-age blended with the best that fantasy has to offer. Now a note to Mom's, this does have its share of violence and gore, although it's not so gruesome that I would call it gratuitous violence. I truly dislike books that are violent purely for the sake of violence, but this is not that. I would say it's more PG-13. The idea that a girl had something violent happen so young is a difficult topic, but May uses this to show how difficult grief and relationships can be.I truly can't say enough good things about it. I'm eager to read everything else May has written.

It was a bit of a chore to get through the first few chapters simply because Kam (calling her Kam because I'm reviewing on mobile and can't remember how to spell her first name) kept moaning on and on about her dead mother and just how darn murderous and eeeevil she is now that she kills faeries. But things eventually pick up and I rather like the concept of a Victorian Buffy. The world was fun if a bit undeveloped. The steampunk elements seemed like an afterthought, just thrown in to make everything Kam does seem cooler. The story itself was pretty good. But once again a lot of things seemed to happen just for dramatic effect. For instance (minor spoiler) I can't see the point of Kiaran refusing to tell her about the seal opening on the lunar eclipse until there's less than a week left until said disastrous eclipse, even though she's apparently the only person who can prevent it. So that little mystery plot bunny just did not make sense at all. Also my suspension of disbelief couldn't really handle the final battle. (Again minor spoiler) So there's hundreds of evil faeries who just escaped the seal and there's only Kiaran and Kam there to fight them. How exactly does that battle go? Do the other faeries politely wait their turn to fight? Do they just run away? What stops them from piling on Kam to prevent her from getting to the seal at all?So overall this is a fun light read, but it just made me roll my eyes one too many times.

I've heard wonderful things about The Falconer so I went in with fairly high expectations and that led to a bit of disappointment. Set in an alternate history filled with intriguing inventions and a new spin on the Seelie, Unseelie, and Solitary Fae, I thought that this just had to be the book for me.Not quite.Aileana never struck me as anything special. I liked that she invented her own weapons and other useful devices, though it always seems to come in as a side comment, something she just does (I wanted to know more about the inventions!) but otherwise she's a Faery hunter. A chosen one, the last of her "kind." And so she spends the book preparing to face the big bad and save the world. Woo... haven't seen that one before...Honestly, I wanted Kiaran's story. He was mysterious enough to make me curious with this layer of humanity he tried to hide behind his Fae nature. His history starts revealing itself closer to the end but he (and Derrick, the pixie) held my attention over Aileana. Then there was this romance-thing. It started out looking like there would be a love triangle between Aileana, Kiaran, and Gavin (her best friend's brother). Thankfully that wasn't the case but the way it's written that isn't really confirmed until later. But the romance that was there kind of caught me off guard in the "oh this is actually going to be a thing now" way. I was shipping them, don't get me wrong, but it was almost a zero to sixty scenario, with the world ending and whatnot, so it didn't feel real, if that makes sense.Despite following the Chosen One trope and introducing what could have been a love triangle (the fact that it wasn't is a redeeming point but the lead-up to that particular reveal was annoying), I loved the way The Falconer took the Fae and twisted the legends into something new. I love all things faerie, especially the stories of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, which are mentioned here so hoping to see more of them. Combined with the Scotland setting and the alternate history, I think the backdrop for this story was my favorite part.As for the story, I liked the beginning because it did catch my attention. Then the story slowed down and nothing really happened. I mean, Faeries attacked but it was kind of the same thing over and over while the doomsday clock kept ticking and Aileana didn't move to stop it until the last minute. Then the end was one big action scene ending in a massive cliffhanger that I would assume was intended to make you NEED the next book, but I didn't feel that.Honestly, I reached the end at felt a mild interest in the sequel but nothing stronger than that. The Falconer had the potential but never quite reached it for me. Here's hoping The Vanishing Throne does a better job of holding my attention. This one was just an average fantasy.

Open Your Heart is a book that will have you hooked right from the very first page of this new series by Sophia Henry. You will meet Austin a man looking for that big break with his band Drowned World and who also is a hopeless romantic when it comes to finding that right woman, little does he know that one rainy night saving a woman on the side of the road might just be that woman.Elizabeth Commons is an aspiring surgeon, born into a rich family doing always what she feels is the right thing to do but when a rainy night changes the course of her life she needs to come to terms with it all but when a night out with her sisters to raise her spirits might just be the beginning of a new life. The moment they connect Elizabeth & Austin’s chemistry is off the charts, they come from two different worlds but they can’t help feel the pull that continues to bring them closer together. They will go through so many emotional ups and downs and reasons that they shouldn’t be together but the heart wants what the heart wants and you will see where that statement comes from can’t be further from the truth.

Open Your Heart is such a beautiful story! Austin meets Liz on a stormy night in Atlanta, unfortunately Liz isn’t really conscious for the whole thing. Later on the two finally meet again and they both feel as though there is a connection there. I loved getting to see the way Austin and Liz’s story flows. The struggles that Liz has growing up with parents that see Classism. The way the Austin is there to support her in her new adventures and showing Liz that what her parents want doesn’t have to be what she wants. The story is well written, emotional, funny but so full of love!

Wow, rich girl, not so rich boy, meet, in an oh so unusual way. What a unique connection Austin and Liv feel, not quite understanding it. There is so much emotion, connection, fire, intense conversations, busy schedules, the two will have one wild, fun journey.❤️Enjoy, I certainly loved it.

Austin was a great character --- sweet, consideŕate, sexy, a rocker, and intelligent. Liz was needy but intelligent. Not a terribly realistic plot, but it kept me reading. Well written.

Great read

3.5 STARS!!!Open Your Heart was a good romance read. Elizabeth (Liz) comes from a very rich and prestigious family and Austin is the man from the wrong side of the tracks following his dream to be a Rockstar. Austin and Liz have a connection that's undeniable and their relationship is one they know will be hard but they can't deny the attraction they feel. I enjoyed the two of them together, although there were times I wanted to shake Liz and tell her to stop acting so childish. Their story was a sweet one with not too much drama but I wish there was more angst. I absolutely loved Austin and his mom. I also enjoyed Liz and her sisters Emily (EmVee) and Madeline (Maddie). There were parts I really enjoyed about the story and parts that were okay. I wish that the flow was a little faster in certain parts of the story but overall this was a good read. This story ends with a cliffhanger leaving readers wanting to know what happened with Maddie and Trent.

He is rockin’ roll, but not really a bad boy. She has family wealth, but isn’t a snobby socialite. Her world is falling apart and by chance fate throws them in each other’s path a second time. His hard work is finally starting to pay off and her’s is falling through her fingers making her feel like she might drowned. Can he help keep her afloat while guiding her to another path or will their families cause another Romeo and Juliet?

Liz is an aspiring surgeon when a bad car accident changes the course of her life and ends her career. Austin comes to her aid anonymously, and he has an up and coming musical career, and is looking for the big break for his band. Six months later Liz’s sister takes her out to see a band, and she meets Austin for the first time. The chemistry between them is intense. This is a well written story. Which had me hooked and intrigued throughout this addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more of this talented authors’ work!

It has been about two years since I've purchased any of the Dark Hunter Novels as they were not available in bookstores in India. Once I purchased my Kindle I did start reading them again, however the list of characters was so long it began to swirl in my mind and so I stopped at Wren's story. Recently, I decided to go back to the series and see if it was as good as I remembered.I had always loved Fang so I purchased "Bad Moon Rising". It was nice. It should have been awesome. Throughout the Dark Hunter novels that I own the longing between Fang and Aimee seemed so poignant. I was truly looking forward to seeing how they could finally come together. I was left wanting.I can say I had no problem with the Thorn portions of the story although the introduction of a new type of player had me wondering why Kenyon insists on prolonging a series by creating new species instead of creating a new series separately. Having were-hunters and their embelishments and dark-hunters and their embelishments in the same series was confusing enough. I kept hoping for a glossary of terms just to remember what was what. Now we have daimons and demons. Please.I can say I didn't have much of a problem with the book beginning from the time Fang and Aimee met. After all if someone picked this up without reading the previous novels in the series it would have been very confusing. As it was I found myself exiting the story too many times by trying to remember what the back story of many of the scenes were. Talon's Story, Valerius', Vane's, Wren's. My issue of using the previous stories makes up in my opinion almost 3/4 of the story. Granted we get to see some of the kissy kissy that was going on that we were unable to see in the earlier stories, but it wasn't enough. As another reviewer stated, I was told that they loved each other, not shown. I truly didn't get a lot of zing that I had gotten with the earlier novels.Issues I do have include:There are that huge spans of time that are just jumped over. Three lines and three months pass without understanding how either Fang or Aimee were feeling. Just a couple of lines thrown in to say they felt bad. This made the book actually feel more like an outline than a novel. An entire new mythology is being introduced inside a Dark Hunter novel. Maybe I missed something in one of the few books in the series that I haven't read but by looking at the synopsis of the other books I don't think so. Shouldn't there have been a novel just on the Demon stuff and then the two universes merged? Once again I come to the concept that this should have broken into separate series.Family is a major theme in this novel. However, most of the novel is with everyone keeping secrets and being angry with families. Mistrust and anger very little comfort. There were several family time's mentioned, but once again these scenes seemed more like statements from an outline than true emotional family scenes .In conclusion, this story has been interspersed through so many others. It deserved a good in depth piece. I'm glad I was able to see the Fang/Aimee denouement, but too much was missing. I realize 349 pages is not a small book. However, with the breadth of time this story took, with the introduction of a new mythos, with so many previous characters that needed to participate in this story and most important with the love story arc of the series; I wouldn't have minded another 75-100 pages if I could have caught my breath, cried or just felt that zing.

There is SO MUCH that happens in this book. Beyond the fact that it spans several years as we get to follow Fang and Aimee's slow-budding relationship, we get new levels to the already complex world that Sherrilyn Kenyon had built. A shadowy figure emerges who might be on the side of good and we get to see more facets of the Were-Hunter way of life.If I take a really broad look at their relationship, most of the issues that keep Fang and Aimee apart come from Mama Peltier. She's kinda a stubborn old bear and she rules the family with an iron fist. While I get that Aimee felt that she had to do her duty to the family line and mate with a were-bear, doesn't fate have something to do with her chosen mate? Simply ignoring her feelings for Fang while she continues to look for the bear that's going to make her panties burst into flames doesn't seem like it's going to work really well.Anyway. Fang's injury opens up a whole new level of crazy with what he encounters when he's half dead. I am SO CURIOUS how all this will eventually tie in together. Sherrilyn Kenyon's brain must be this insanely fantastic place that's both horrifying and awesome all at the same time.We get to see some old favorites and a different point of view on some of the events that took place in earlier books. Souls are bartered, love is unearthed, and new danger is revealed.Rereading this series has been pretty fantastic.-Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal

So, I've read the first book in the Dark-Hunter series Night Pleasures... and that was it. Not that I didn't like the book but that was all my library carried. So skip forward a month to me cruising books on amazon that are on sale. Which is where I find this gem. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to skip so many books in the storyline but this book reads as a stand alone just fine. At no point was a lost as to what was going on. Now granted I may have connected more with the secondary characters a bit more but I loved the story. The story starts off with Fang, his brother and fellow wolf pack members going into a bar. (yes I realize this sounds like the start of a corny joke). It turns out that the bar is run by were-bears and the bar is a neutralized zone. So when were-jackals show up and not only attack the owners of the bar but threaten the life of Aimee, the bears sister and daughter, the wolves take action. They were brought up to hold females in the utmost respect and to protect them at all costs. What isn't acceptable is inter-species relations. Which just so happens to snowball between Aimee and Fang after the jackal incident. Now yes there is forbidden romance but there is so much more to the story than that. You have two separate species that you follow in this book. We have the bears and the wolves. Now, most shifter books tend to be about wolves and I'll be honest... some subjects like mating were brought up in this book that I hadn't seen in other shifter books. I'm not talking about the "we're mated for life" but the fact that after they get a mate mark, if they don't seal the deal then the male goes limp noodle for the rest of his life. Or that females can be rather ahem, rough shall we say during the horizontal tango. I also liked the aspect of the families in this story. Both Fang and Aimee have close family members that they cherish and would die for. Not to mention the war that's waging against Aimee's family and Fang's personal war with his demon. This is a novel that will leave you wanting for nothing.-Book Sniffers Anonymous
