Everything i could have wanted in a modern ceramics collection book. Page after page of colorful photos of creative, figurative pieces including attributions and descriptions, but not much more. (which i loved) Just a great collection of wonderful, exciting pieces. I loved the first volume so much, i ordered volume II as well. Very inspiring. Might make you want to go out and buy some clay. The Lark books are a great addition to any art library.

The "500" series of art books are some of my favorite go-to books for inspiring me - and my students. I teach beginning and intermediate ceramics at a local Art Center and this book - "500 Figures in Clay" has already inspired several of my students.

Volume 1 of 500 figures in clay is a fascinating illustration of many sculptors' works. The works are inventive, creative, and point of view. Many are glazed in color while others are more subtly finished. It is a wondrous book and can't help but pull the reader into variety of manifestations of the human figure.

Lots of very inspiring clay figures. A great resource for any studio or ceramics classroom. It would also make a great coffee table book and gift for any art enthusiast. This book is basically all pictures, with artist names, titles and limited technical info. Definitely not a how-to book, but there are plenty of those out there to guide you in making similar figures. Some reviews made comments about many of the figures being creepy, but I think that's because any distortion of the human figure often invokes an emotional response from a viewer, and many shown in the book are abstract, surreal and expressive rather than traditional and proportionally accurate.

Another unique compilation by the folks at Lark Books. They excel at bringing together some of the best examples of contemporary work in each subject or medium. Wonderful resources for the classroom or collectors.

Another lovely 500 Series book! I got this one for the studio and the students love it!

Great review of areas artists Clay work. I bought this, along with the companion, second edition. Both really stimulate the creative process

I bought this for my granddaughter (she's 20) and she loved it. Great photos.

FASCINATING...a wonderful crime novel; tense, sometimes scary, yet exhilarating. PROOF POSITIVE that novels do NOT NEED vulgarity and explicit sex scenes to be fascinating reading!!! I look forward to reading more by this talented author. My only complaint is the errors that are made when a book is reformatted for Kindle, obviously WITHOUT either a proofreader or a copy editor!!! But that is a complaint I have with almost every Kindle read!!!

Loved this story -- couldn't put it down - checked out this author's other works, and signed up on his website for updates! This is a thriller without being too dark, but you don't know that until it's over. The heroine in this story, law student Rachel Ybarra, finds herself in the middle of the best and worst situation she could ever imagine. She gets the opportunity to be a paralegal in U S Attorney's office -- her dream job -which puts her right in the middle of a murder trial of a cold blooded Russian, former KGB, gangster! The only witness is found dead in the bathtub of the "safe" hotel, with his FBI protector knocked out cold. It looks like suicide! But, the US Attorney has one more, terrified and very reluctant, witness they were hoping not to have to rely on. She is a former girlfriend who overheard something that directly ties the accused to the case. Our law student makes an emotional connection with the witness, which puts her in the sights of the most vicious killer ever to leave Russian soil and make his way to the US. You'll be looking over your own shoulder while praying for the safety of Rachel and everyone she cares about. Throw in some romance, double crossing coworkers, compromised agents. . . and it will take all of Rachel's faith and strength to come out alive! While this story was well developed and fast moving, it left a few loose ends and the ending felt a little rushed. Another 30 or 40 pages could have fleshed out some of the key characters and earned a 5 star review. But, it is a good story -- kept me on edge and had me talking out loud to the characters trying to help them out of very precarious situations! The romance seemed somewhat cliche and predictable and happened too fast, but isn't a major distraction. Would have liked to had additional character development, and what happened to Frough, and was Ashby guilty of more than just being a sleazy, opportunistic coworker?? Will Ms. Holt show up in future stories? Will definitely read more from this author.

This is one of those books that got more exciting as the book progressed. By the end I was staying up very late to see what would happen next. It involves the Russian Mafia who come to the US and seem to be in a legal business and fine upstanding residents.Rachel, a law student working as a paralegal gets in the middle of all the drama. One Russian drug dealer has a limosine business and uses it to transport drugs. His wife is an outstanding part of the community, so they are above suspicion. Rachel lives with her grandmother, free, to help her finish college. Rachel gets involved with the FBI in trying to find and convict the criminals.Rachel and her grandmother are threatened to stay out of the FBI case or they will "be sorry". Of course, there is the usual romance, plus how faith in God can help in so many ways. He gives us Peace in times of trouble.This book has incredible suspense, and is hard to put down as the intensity increases as you read the book. I highly recommend this book to everyone who likes to be on "pins and needles" for hours at a time. Not for the faint of heart.

This book has good legal drama but at times is predictable. At times I felt the book had an "amateur" writing style which was a little distracting. The storyline along with Christian values are intertwined in such a simple way that even a non-believer can understand the basics of faith and overcoming an enemy. The core story is relatable and engaging. If you're looking for a quick legal story this will do.

I liked the writing style of Mr Bell. The plot was well-done. But the three stars came from big gaps in reality. Without giving away anything I'll try to explain. When the female protagonist tells her FBI friend about some extortion she is experiencing, he does nothing. The Feebie is so wrapped up in his own problems that he focuses on those instead of helping his friend. Had he helped his friend the book would have ended 50% sooner. I also deducted points because the character development was not very well done. I still have no idea what the Feebie looked like, what Rachel looked like, or any of the other major characters. Other points were lost with Rachel's (and eventually the Feebie's) proselytizing about their religions. Wasn't appropriate in many cases. Not sure if Mr Bell is a religion buff or not (this is his first book for me). The author has great potential and I will buy another book to see if this was just a mediocre day for him.

"Micronesia and Palau" is an unusual guidebook in a number of respects. The central Pacific islands described in the book are pretty much off the beaten tourist path, unless you happen to be a hardcore diver or student of the Pacific portion of the Second World War. Most of the islands have limited infrastructure intended for visitors (which can be good or bad). The book was written by former Peace Corps volunteers who actually lived in Micronesia and Palau; their insight on the islands and the locals is much more in depth than might be expected from the standard tourist handbook."Micronesia and Palau" does contain lots of useful information about some relatively remote and beautiful islands, all of which have something to offer the tourist looking for something different and prepared to perhaps rough it a little. There is a limited selection of black and white photographs and some sketch maps. The guide offers enough information to plan a visit and to engage the local culture, although additional research is recommended on airline and other travel connections (which can be inconvenient and expensive). This book may also be of interest to students of Oceania, looking for recent insights into the partly traditional, partially westernized societies in Micronesia and the Republic of Palau. It is highly recommended to both audiences.

About the best guide you're likely to find for Micronesia. Certainly better done than the "Lonely Planet" series.

What a disappointment. I purchased this guidebook hoping for insider information from the former Peace Corps volunteer authors. Instead, it seemed that they had sworn a solemn oath not to reveal any of their local knowledge to tourists.The Palau contributing editor writes in her bio that she enjoyed running, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, and biking around the islands and was happy to share her secrets. I looked up hiking and it referred me to the Sights section for possible hike locations. I went to Sights and not one hike was listed. There were a couple of museums that one could walk to, there were several sights on the water in the Rock Islands that it's impossible to walk to and there was a helicopter tour listed. Biking? Nothing. Kayaking? Contact a tour operator. No mention that one can kayak and camp independently in the Rock Islands. (That was the best vacation of my life camping on the Rock Islands.) Snorkeling? They mention the beach at the Palau Pacific Resort but no mention that one can buy a day pass for $25.The same applies for the FSM coverage. On Yap they mention stone money banks but don't tell you where to find them. (They tell you to visit the Visitor's Bureau for information.) They tell you that the Tmilyog [sic] Trail is the most popular hike and tell you that any hotel or resort can arrange it. (The Visitor's Bureau will give you a nice map of Yap, the trail head with the BIG sign is easily found just out of town.) Also, it's the Hiltop Motel not Hilltop Hotel.Crucial information is missing. There's a $35 permit one has to purchase in order to visit Jellyfish Lake in addition to the cost of the tour taking you there. There are various diving permits needed in Palau. There are varying hotel occupancy taxes in the States. These are all not mentioned.The hotel descriptions are lacking. Example: they will list a range of prices at a hotel but not mention that the less expensive rooms are in the old wing.I could go on and on. There is way too much ask your hotel, ask your tour operator.Why are distances on maps noted in kilometers when miles are used locally and the most likely purchaser of the book will be American?Luckily in planning I used the old Moon Micronesia (about 10 years old, prices haven't gone up that much and what has changed has not been included in this new guide), the wonderful 1995 (back when they were still good) Lonely Planet Micronesia and Tripadvisor. With the old 1995 LP guide I was able to hike to a waterfall not far from Kolonia, Pohnpei. It's not even mentioned here. (Hire a guide is their general waterfall advice.)Anything good in the guide? Well if you are on a dive or surf tour and you have all your accommodations set and are just looking to see where to have dinner and possibly find a bit of nightlife this is handy to have.

I really enjoyed the authors' perspective of the islands in Micronesia. They were very informative and they shared intimate knowledge about the culture you can't find elsewhere. I especially enjoyed the folktales added into the chapters that really made this book entertaining and not just another boring guide book.

This is the most up-to-date and informative guide book on Micronesia I've found. Ben Cook gives lots of great suggestions for things to see and do. The maps are clear and easy to read and the pictures are beautiful. I would read this guide even if I weren't going to Micronesia - just to daydream!

I can't speak to the entire book, but the section on Palau is spot on. Most books give Palau a few short pages. Here, however, there is a wealth of practical information. Having spent a fair amount of time in Palau, I think the information and recommendations are as up-to-date as one is likely to find. I also appreciated the authors' cultural sidenotes. If you are traveling to Palau any time soon, I highly recommend this book. I wish I had read it before my trip.

Fantastic book by authors who clearly spent time in Palau and Micronesia and acquired local knowledge. I like that the authors are former Peace Corps volunteers who truly spent time there, rather than some publisher who came in for a few weeks and left to write a book. I disagree with the negative reviews listed here on Amazon.

I have read all the books that the Hiekin Ashi Trader has written. I am hoping he will translate the book entitled in Dutch I think Swing Trading with the 4 Hour Chart.After reading Scalping is Fun Books 1 - 4, I had a breakthrough. The way the author describes what it means to swing trade, moving from over analyzing to flow, keeping appropriate records so not only do you know your win/loss ratio, but also expectation, size of loss, etc. somehow got into me in a deeper way than anything else I have read, and honestly I have probably read over 100 books from Amazon that deal with trading. And for the first time I started making consistent profit. And just so you know, I do not know the Heiken Ashei Trader, nor was I asked or paid to do a review. I highly recommend these books, they are both the most practical, and at the same time the most impactful when it comes to changing how you see the market and how you must see yourself if you are going to be a successful scalper. Also know that I seldom if ever write a review, because most of what I have read regarding trading is redundant or not helpful. So this review is unusual. I wish there was someway to contact the author. I hope the author translates into English Swing Trading on the 4 Hour Chart, which I believe is in German and or Dutch.

Given the low price I figured there was no harm in learning about Heikin Ashi charts. No harm indeed, but also nothing gained. One would learn more by a simple Google search, and to learn how he uses the candles to scalp will evidently only be discussed in part 2 (or 3), which are still cheap but more expensive. Based on how bad part 1 was, I'll refrain from part 2.

I have purchased several investing Kindle books and have been happy. But if I could get a refund for this one I would. You are better off watching free YouTube videos re Heiden Ashe, which is a GREAT charting method. The FREE video ‘The 15 Minute Heikin Ashe Trading Strategy’ is a great introduction.

I've been learning Forex for a little over a year now and what I've learned in my adventure in forex is you have to find a style that works for you . There is no one way of trading that will work for everyone as it's got to work with your personality . Scalping works for me because I like quick results in and out . I have a program I've been following which I also recommend for those who enjoy scalping ( please message me if interested ) but there were aspects that weren't working for me . I find the HA bars help A TON and I have been working on blending the ideas in this book with the strategy I have to make for the perfect strategy for me . What do you have to lose ? I have read book 1 & 2 and have gotten some great ideas and I'm going to buy the other two books as well . If you are like me , this book won't be enough on its own but it can get the wheels spinning and get you on the way to where you need to be . I highly recommend it and I am thankful I came across this .

Written between trades no doubt? Didn't cost much though. To get the full value you would have to read the other volumes, at which point you would have paid the normal price for a normal sized book. I'm cutting my losses here

I'm an experienced trader. While there are a couple points that are good, you just have to keep in mind that you must trade based off of you're own risk tolerances. I've studied everything from Gann to Elliot Wave and everything in between. You have to start with what risk you can accept, not just any books view of what you should do. Keep reading, and find someone that can mentor you.

Honestly, nothing personal here, BUT this book (at least this part of the book, part 1) has no value whatsoever. It doesn't describe any specific method nor strategy. In other words, it doesn't give out any basis for scalping which one can build on top of.

Minimal description, of little value, and after reading both part one and part two, I consider part 1 a Total waste of time. Fortunately it cost less than a cup of coffee, but offers little flavor whatsoever. Part 2 has some usefulness, but it too, attempts to cover a wide swath of territory with skin deep level of information. This book is an extremely well-organized and easy-to-understand guide to all of the commonly used approaches to the facial skeleton for anyone in plastic surgery, otolaryngology, oral-maxillofacial surgery, or neurosurgery. It contains VERY clear diagrams and explanations. There are only so many approaches to access the skeleton. Thus, this book is not very thick. Compared to the limited amount of content, the price is steep. However, it will provide an extremely clear and conscience reference or refresher for any practicing surgeon that deals with the face.

I feel like every OMS resident should own this book. The addition of the videos is a nice bonus and there are some great updates in this edition. Love this book and it's an easy review for certain approaches you're not doing every day.

This review is specifically in regards to the 3rd edition which was released in 2018. The text is still the same as the second ed., however, the photography is excellent and supplemental videos are invaluable. Must have book as a resident!

Illustrations, fresh cadaveric sections and photos in the OP, allow a step-by-step understanding of how to achieve a correct approach to every bony structure of the facial skeleton. I strongly recommend this book to everyone that deals with the facial skeleton structures (OMFS, ENT and plastic surgeons as well).

I read an excerpt or an interview about Finding Your Element somewhere and somehow I got hooked into the idea that this book contained some revolutionary wisdom on discovering your true calling in life. For me, this wasn't the case. The book is stuffed with a great many tired platitudes, and its "revolutionary insight" basically boils down to the obvious idea of "do what you love."I'm not saying this is bad advice, or that the commonsense wisdom, spoken through the silver-tongued mouth of Sir Ken Robinson, won't inspire some to get off their butts and take action. But the majority of the book contains disappointingly obvious cliches backed up by real-life accounts of people who have followed this obvious advice, and, unsurprisingly, had positive results. *It worked for Sally-Jo... It can work for you, too!*For me, the book never digs deep enough into the gritty, challenging areas of helping people transition to a meaningful career. Rarely if ever, for example, does the text address the fact that we live in a techno-industrial civilization that is specifically designed to prevent most people from fulfilling their individual creative potential, and to enslave us in a monolithic, hierarchical corporate economy. "You always have choices," Sir Ken boasts confidently. Well, in today's world of neoliberal domination, choices are becoming narrower and narrower for the vast majority of the population.The book feels somewhat out of touch with the struggles of everyday people. It's very genial throughout, and the tone is avuncular, as if a rich old uncle is talking to his young rich nephew about whether or not he should be a horse jockey or continue in the family silver business. It's not easy to find my element when I can barely stay afloat in the economy, and it's a tragedy that Finding Your Element is such a luxury in contemporary society, where there's more than enough wealth for everyone to share, were it more equally distributed.I'm fighting desperately to find my element, but sometimes I feel it's a losing battle because of the intense pressure the system puts on my back to conform and become a wage slave so I can survive.Criticisms aside, if you're looking for a basic book to give you a few ideas about how to expand your world, you could do worse. Some bits of wisdom that genuinely resonated:• Finding your element is about discovering what lies within you and, in doing so, transforming what lies before you.• Being in your element gives you energy. Not being in it takes it from you.• Many of the opportunities you have in your life are generated by the energy you create around you.• The search for your element is a two-way journey: an inward journey to explore what lies within you and an outward journey to explore opportunities in the world around you.• Do all you can to explore new avenues of possibilities in yourself and in the world around you.• You may be better than you think at what you love. You may underestimate your talent because you set unreasonably high standards for yourself. Having high standards is good, provided you're not immobilized by self-criticism.• Connecting with people who share your Element can have tremendous benefits for you and them.• The most common regret: Not having the courage to live a life true to yourself.

He takes a 360 view of your life and walks you through it all. You do a series of exercises where you ask yourself deep questions. You find your element when you find the intersection between your passions and aptitudes.He has three major principles:Principle #1: Your Life is Unique.We're all different.We're all a mix of nature and nurture.Principle #2: You create your own life.Carl Jung: "I am not what has happened to me, I am what I choose to become."Principle #3: Life is OrganicWe all change. We don't have a linear path. He incorporates a lot of examples of successful people who had a completely nonlinear path to success.Vivek Wadhwa, famous for his work on immigrants working in the technology field in the United States, realized that "there is no link between what you study in college and how successful or otherwise you are later in your life."Ken Robinson talks about a lot of the existing literature and methods for finding out what your passion is and he's fairly critical of them. He talks about what's called the Forer Effect, also known as the Barnum Effect. You mold your personality to conform with what people tell you your personality incorporates. Robinson is in favor of using personality types to describe yourself, but he says not to let the personality definitions (MBTI for example) limit you.He also takes a lot of time to talk about happiness and positive psychology. He differentiates between your physical and spiritual well-being. When I was in the Andes and taking an anthropology class, I learned that the indigenous culture believes in two types of life force. One is the breath of life and the other I would call the force of spirit, just like Scott Russell Sanders' The Force of Spirit. He talks about Gretchen Rubin The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun.His definition of happiness comes from Sonja Lyubomirsky: Happiness is the experience of joy, contentment, and well-being combined with a sense that life is good and worthwhile. I felt like that was a really comprehensive yet concise summary and I think that the happiness section was the best part of this book.Robinson goes on to talk about the 5 different kinds of well-being: career, social, financial, physical, and community. He asks you what sorts of hurdles or responsibilities you have and what sorts of risks that you can take. He asks you who you want to be, but in a much more specific way.He also talks about Bonnie Ware The Top Five Regrets of the Dying: A Life Transformed by the Dearly Departing, because a lot of his action steps at the end of the book have to do with mitigating risks. I found it interesting that a lot of the suggestions that he had were in line with things that Barry Schwartz said at the end of The Paradox of Choice: Why More Is Less.I've seen Robinson's TED talk and expected more of the book to be about the education system and creativity. While he does talk about them, he encourages the reader to engage in a lot of introspection through a variety of exercises; each chapter ends with a few questions about you and your life. My favorite exercises had to do with vision boards. I used Pinterest to create them and I really loved having a concrete, pictorial representation of more abstract concepts, such as the activities that I do in daily life.Robinson also says that it's all an iterative process and we grow organically (Principle #3), so nobody should expect his or her desires at one point to be the same as at another point in his or her life. I know that it's valuable for me to read this as a recent college graduate and that I'll read it again, further down the line.

This book will empower the reader to step out of the conformities that have become entrenched in our educational institutions of learning. I was an instructor of mathematics, music and physical education for forty plus years. As I was reading and rereading Sir Ken's thoughts, I imagined every educator implementing even one or two of them throughout her/his lessons. From the first page to the last, you will travel a journey of personal enlightenment. If you are one of the precious few who has been true to herself living the life of joyous fulfillment, you will celebrate your uniqueness with each page you turn. And, then, give this book to those you know and love who may be struggling with "where do I go from here?" This book is a gift every person must give her/him self, most especially if you are a professional educator.
