When I started to read "Moments of Truth" I was immediately turned off by the story line. It was unexpected. It seemed to end the novel just as I had begun to read it. I thought: why read further? There is no mystery. The crime is solved. However, Lisa Scottoline is a skillful story-teller. She can hold your attention with the most mundane matter. The story starts with the startling confessions of an unusual client and develops into an interesting and intriguing plot replete with classic conflicts and unrelenting doubts on all sides. The story moves through multiple paths of suspense and intrigue. It arrives at a resolution that affirms a timeless adage: good will triumph over evil. Lisa Scottoline's powerful writing force draws her readers into the story as active participants in a quest for the truth. She shows that this quest can be messy and can contain unavoidable tragic consequences."Moments of Truth" is a book I could not stop reading once I got started. Every page evoked my curiosity and had me engaged in solving mysteries. I was just as anxious as Mary DiNunzio, the rookie homicide defense attorney, and the lead detective, Reginald Brinkley, to discover the truth behind a high profile murder. It was exciting reading it. There is not one dull page in this book.

Another suspenseful book by Lisa Scottoline! With just enough legal jargon to make the novel educational and believable, Moment of Truth captured my interest within the first few pages. While the reader is led to believe that Jack Newlin confessed to a murder he didn't commit, as the story unravels, you find yourself beginning to doubt his innocence. Did he or didn't he? Or was it his daughter Paige? Was Trevor, her boyfriend involved? It's obvious that the two young people are selfish and ill-mannered, but does that make them murderers? And then there's Mary, the lawyer. Will her emotions cloud her judgment and prevent her from doing her job? Is Jack taking advantage of her attraction for him? There are heart-stopping scenes when you (the reader) fear for someone's life. There are also heart-warming ones that take place in the DiNunzio kitchen that make you realize that despite the evil in the world, somewhere there is love and goodness. While everything comes out "okay" in the end, there are some harrowing, suspenseful moments and surprises leading up to it.

I'm starting to read Lisa Scottoline novels like they are candy, one right after the other. I was really excited about this book for the plot it promised and especially because of that classic first line. However I found this as one of the books that was harder to get through. Despite the many, many twists Scottoline came up with this book was slow and even bordered on far fetched after a time. Everyone was just tossing theories around on a hunch and then the actual truth of whodunit was random for me. Yes the story is a page turner if you suspend your belief for a time but as far as great stories go, this isn't one of her best.

I enjoy watching the characters of the Rosato lawyers develop over the series. Glad Lou is back. Hoping Brinkley and Kodach (sp?) return. I did miss Mary’s twin sister when she visits family. This story has several twists and turns. However, maybe one too many. Looking forward to book 6.

This is my first time to read Lisa Scottoline and it definitely will not be my last. Here is a fine writer who knows how to keep the reader on the tip of the page and the edge of the chair. And what a plot!!Every time things seemed to be moving in one direction, Scottoline turned them sharply in another direction, over and over. That is in my opinion what makes a good mystery thriller. The characters are well developed and even the bad guys well defined. It is not my policy to tell what the book is about. That keeps the reader from the fun of uncovering and enjoying for him/herself the joy of a well structured and enjoyable book. Read it and get ready to hold your breath. Highly recommended.

How can a father and lawyer, Jack Newlin, frame himself for his wife's murder? If this sounds improbable, let me say it right now, Lisa Scottoline shows that it can be done in this fast-paced and sometimes humorous novel. Her characters are warm, well rounded and often very funny, and are enough to carry the questionable plot of this book to an interesting conclusion.Jack's rookie lawyer is Mary DiNunzio, a genuinely warm-hearted individual, who takes his case even when sha doesn't buy his story. Her legal associates, Lou and Judy, add to this interesting mix of characters, along with Brinkley and Kovich, two Philadelphia detectives who want to wrap this case up quickly and easily.Ms. Scottoline has again created another real winner of a book here. Also, don't miss "Mistaken Identity," her sixth novel.

This was a very good story and it was made more enjoyable by the reader. The story is about a women who is murdered and found by her husband arriving late for a dinner with her and their emancipated daughter who is going to tell her she is pregnant. The women is despicable her. The hubby thinks the daughter did it. He's a lawyer and he hires a green lawyer to the field to represent him when he confesses. The lawyer figures out he is lying. The D.A. wants to go for the death penalty and make an example out of him. A good twist and a very good read by Rosenblat.

The story was interesting but you felt from the start that the main character was not the doer. At times the story moved slowly. All in all I did enjoy the book and will read more of Lisa Scottoline's books.

Arches National Park by Day & Night, by Grant Collier

Review

Grant Collier has taken a great idea and made a stunning (and different) book of photographs of Arches National Park. Though the book shows us the best night photography ever done in the park, the day shots are also wonderful. It took at lot of luck, or time, to get the great photo of Balanced Rock reflected in a large pool. I've never seen the pool or another photograph of it. Be prepared to see the park through new eyes in this wonderful book. --Tom Till, world-renowned photographerThe night photos and shots from more remote sections of the park are what make this collection in paperback really stand out. --The Denver Post

From the Back Cover

Arches National Park in eastern Utah is one of the most unique places on the planet. It contains an immense array of sandstone sculptures, including fins, spires, pinnacles, balanced rocks, and natural arches. The arches range in size from small openings to enormous spans measuring nearly 300 feet across. Renowned photographer Grant Collier has photographed the most popular rock formations in Arches National Park, along with many remote and little known natural wonders. He has captured the brilliant display of wildflowers in spring, the blazing color of cottonwoods in autumn, and the remarkable beauty of white snow against red rock in winter. Collier has also spent countless nights photographing the rock formations beneath a canopy of stars, planets, and meteors. These images, along with text explaining the geology, flora and fauna, and human history of Arches, provide a stunning new perspective on this extraordinary national park.

Beautiful images and some location descriptions. No tech/exposure data.

My in-laws often visit Arches National Park, so I got this as a Christmas present for them. The pictures are beautiful! It is not a hard back, but is still a very nice, quality book!

beautiful

Nice book for the price with beautiful images. A bit small for a "coffee table" style book, but good for the price.

This book has great coverage of Arches National Park. Both the information and the photography are helpful and beautiful. I love the night photography of many of the notable and famous features - totally unique! I also appreciated the photos of remote and lesser known parts of the park that a lot of people never visit or get to see.If you enjoy good photography, are planning a trip to Arches, or you're just a fan of the park, you'll enjoy this book.

Stunning photographs of a national treasure. Grant Collier has a gift for capturing unique scenes and his night photos are exquisite.

This is a excellent book on Arches National Park....having been there a few times myself, I can say the information and the photography are excellent. This is a book to get if your going to Arches National Park.

Less about KLF and more about Higgs' attempt to contextualize intellectually and historically why they blew-up when they did, as well as ruminate on the relationship between the Situationists and those who play with or subscribe to Discordianism, a hilarious parody (or is it?) of organized religious belief. Frankly, I got bored with the long passages about the character of scientific inquiry, the "what if" possibilities that this or that KLF thing corresponds to some historical event, and so on. I found myself enjoying the author's personality at the same time annoyed with pages upon pages of rumination on current events and "in between moments." The biggest disappointment, for me, is the relative LACK of discussion about the music itself, the sound, the composition of the tracks, the musicians involved, and so forth. This is not a musical biography, really. Ultimately, it seemed to me as I was reading Higgs goes on tangents about the "what if" relations between R.A. Wilson and so on in order to make a book fat enough to publish. Much of the insight here could have been delivered in half the number of pages here. A good effort, but sorta boring to me.

If you know the KLF, you know what the KLF is about. I admire their methods and how they could subvert and use the established industry to fit their needs and expose pop culture. I often wonder if this could be replicated in the 21st century. I love the KLF do it yourself attitude and their ideas have had a tremendous influence. This book takes shape in the many connections, some overpowering, some unsuspected , that exist in the construction of their reality.

This book is one gigantic neuron cluster linking seemingly-disparate huge influences on my own career. So if you like me, you'll love this book. Higgs is the James Burke of music, magic and the inception of the 21st century. Holy Cow, and Wholly Chao!

Most of this book is not about the KLF but the entire book is about the KLFness of the KLF. Most of those who danced to their music in the 90s were blissfuly unaware of the influence & relationship of Robert Anton Wilson, Alan Moore, Doctor Who, JFK, and Cabaret Voltaire (the art movement, not the band) to the music we danced to. JMR Higgs takes the reader on a path of connections explaining the KLFness rather than merely documenting studio events. His understanding of certain aspects of religious philosophy and economy seems a bit forced into the narrative but this can be forgiven and does not reduce this from being a 5 star book.

I enjoyed this book and found it valuable in my continuing understanding. For me, an American discordian born in 1977, it really tied up a lot of loose ends. I love RAW, and Ken Campbell's reading of Illuminatus! amazes me every time. I've also followed the KLF since the nineties. I knew little of Dr. Who, so didn't fully realize the significance. I recommend this book to everyone interested in these matters. PS Nothing is true, everything is permissible.

I like this but I can't say it's for everybody. Are you a person who likes weird stuff, but is skeptical who likes rave bands from the late eighties and likes conspiracy theories just for entertainment value. Do you like Tammy Wynette? Do you like philosophical systems that seek to undermine philosophical systems by masquerading as philosophical systems? These are some of the questions you should ask before reading this. Do you like Dr. Who? Dadaism? If so then I think you will enjoy this bit of history(?). I think it captures a moment in a way-late eighties/early nineties- that was a transitional period. To what? From what? Note sure. Is what it is. The book is a fun read. Not sure it is more than that but it might lead to other things?

KLF are probably the only musicians/band in the history of modern music that did not sell out. Their story is truly original, their ways are ways of madness and they sure as hell had some serious fun along the way. It's clear why they are underrated, why more people didn't hear about them. The story of KLF's success and subsequent disappearance from the music scene is intense and unlike any other band's story. Highly recommended if you're into weirdness, originality and sheer madness.

Nothing I can say in this review will do justice to this extraordinary, thought-provoking, funny, fascinating book. Despite previously considering myself to be someone who "knew about" the JAMS, nothing could have prepared me for the experience of reading this. The closest I've ever come to feeling as mentally exercised and excited after reading a non-fiction book was after completing Godel, Escher, Bach; which whilst thought provoking in the extreme, never produced as many out-loud laughs on the bus to work as this.Whether you're a fan of the JAMS or if you've never heard of them before, this book will take you to some very odd places and introduce you to some fascinating history and ideas. A thread is sewn between JFK, Dr Who, Chaos, Money, Alan Moore, Ken Campbell, Tammy Wynette, Life, The Universe and Everything fnord; we even get to understand why two men would burn a million pounds on the Isle of Jura. Sort of.

Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo is one of my favorite books. I absolutely loved this book. Colton, a 4 year old boy has an experience when he goes under emergency surgery. He spends time in Heaven and sees people he didn't otherwise know about and then relates what he has seen to is parents in pieces over time. His story amazes me. He gives us a real picture of Jesus and His plan for us. Jesus uses this little boy to tell us a vivid story of what Heaven is. Colton's "visions" and experiences in Heaven are absolutely beautiful and thought provoking.I read this book in a matter of hours. I just couldn't put it down. It has given me a new outlook and a different vision of how I have always imagined Heaven. I can't say enough good things about this book. I have read so many reviews of skeptics and I couldn't disagree with them more. I believe Jesus uses the purity of children to help with His work here on earth. I believe this book will be life-changing to most all who read it. It is chocked full of biblical truths. I believe this family is a genuine family. I suggest reading it a passing it along to a friend. I can't find any cons when reading this book other than I wish I had read it sooner. This book was provided to me at no charge from [...] for an honest review.

Having just experienced my husband Tom's passing, I found the descriptions by Colton of the death experience to be very comforting. This little boy was able to lift me from a feeling of deep separation from Tom, to feeling Tom's comforting presence. In the Burpos' angst in the Colton's illness arose much spiritual understanding and hope in life everlasting. Colton made death as normal as getting an ice cream cone on a Saturday afternoon. We are right now planning my husband's memorial and I approach it with greater joy than I could have imagined. .

Ohmygosh. Just ghastly. Working in palliative medicine, I've heard so many NDE stories from adults and children - and this is absolutely the most ridiculous, unbelievable one. VERY unlike the countless thousands of NDE stories out there. It is so obvious that the story was contaminated by Todd Burpo's own fundamentalist Christianity. And claims in the book that the boy had never heard those Bible stories can be nothing other than flat out lies. A fundamentalist Christian preacher's kid never heard Bible stories? Really? The only truth I found in it was the part about the Burpo family being in a financial bind. Todd found a great way to solve that problem - make up a rubbish story that heavily pollutes his boy's actual NDE story and sell it to gullible people who have the arrogance to actually believe that out of 4,200 religions in the world today, THEIRS is the only correct one.I read the whole thing in paperback. And then I threw it in the trash - to end up in the landfill. Best place for this load of rubbish.

I have read this two times, and I'm reading it again. Rather than a steady diet of watching them dissect cadavers on NCIS and whatever else the media want to feed me, I try to sup with the King, and encourage myself, and motivate myself as well. There is a scene of a battle described that also gives me constant inspiration when I think about it. Our battles today with all the little kingdoms around us are things that we can affect, for good or for not-so-good, and I need to know that I can make a difference, so keep trying!By the way, I study these died-and-come-back stories, and there is a book by Petti Wagner called "Murdered Heiress, Living Witness" that I also read constantly. In it, after bringing Petti back to life, he educates her about the three persons that comprise Him. AND he helps her make an impossible escape from a prison they built in a psych. ward of an abandoned hospital in Texas.I also love the book by Richard Wurmbrand, "In God's Underground", in which he supernaturally forgives his prison torturers and goes back to try to win them. Now that's love! These stories have both really tough parts, and really great parts... kind of exactly like life. Hope this helps!

In order to understand the experiences that are detailed about the little boy in this true story, who is named Colton Burpo, about his dad Todd, the rest of his family, their community, and their relationship to the concept of heaven,I am advising people who have read this kids version with its beautiful illustrations, or potential readers,to also invest in reading the adult version of HEAVEN is for Real, HEAVEN CHANGES EVERYTHING by the BURPOS, and last but never least, the book of life also known as The Holy Bible. The study of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ, is the key to understanding this family's relationship to one another,to the love of Jesus, to your relationship to Jesus, and to the revelation of an existence called heaven. The book,Heaven is for Real for kids and the other suggested readings, go beyond a one dimensional or perhaps limited understanding of the concept of another existence. It is beyond what may be deemed as rational.IF YOU ARE READY FOR INCREDIBLE,LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCES that are part of the suggested readings and The Holy Bible's teachings,A WILLINGNESS OF HEART WILL RENDER THEM YOURS. Cheers,Delilah/D-Arnita Acquaah.April 8,2016.

I liked everything about this book and Colton's descriptions of Jesus, God, & the Holy Sporit. The way he described Heaven was so familiar to me because during my mother's last days she described Heaven and how the colors of Heaven were not like the colors we see here on earth. She described hearing my brother who passed away two years before her; also describing the stairway to Heaven (all what she described and what Colton described is backed up by the scriptures). Reading Heaven is For Real brought back memories of my last days with my Mom and knowing I will see her again. Thanks to the Burpo family for sharing your family to the world by writing this book. This book and Colton's experience in Heaven truly blessed me. I want to share this book with a young couple I know whose baby passed away at 2 months. They know he's in Heaven and I think the way Colton talked about the sister who was miscarried and how he met her in Heaven is very comforting.

I got an early copy of Jay's book and finally sat down over the last couple of days to really peel it back a few layers. I'm a "fitness guy" : I've been strength training for over two decades, work in search and rescue, and knocking on 40 years old I'm starting to learn how to deal with more injuries and longer recovery times. To start, there are some definite solid points in this book. First, Jay lays out a program to follow. Rather than just randomly throwing darts at what you should include in a workout, he very clearly breaks down an exercise list that changes as your fitness improves. Second, Jay touches on important aspects of fitness that have nothing to do with bicep curls and everything to do with keeping your mental and physical self in order: resting, meditating, and realizing that a lot of this stuff (motivation, discipline, drive) is in your head. There are areas where I think things could have been better. First off, back exercises without some form of suspension or pulling resistance is simply insufficient especially when you're also throwing in exercises for the chest (pushups, etc). A supine row is easily accomplished by most folks by holding on under a table, and by anyone using rings or a TRX-ish trainer. This might sound persnickety, but it's a reality and I was bummed it got left out. Suspension, rings, a table you can hold onto, or a sturdy piece of wood all still qualify as "bodyweight". There's no reason to leave items like this out, given how important they are, unless the goal is to write a book for those of us living on a featureless barren landscape devoid of all third dimensional objects.Further, the guy on the cover uses weights, there's no way around it. I think it's a little disingenuous to show a picture like that which implies that you too can be mega ripped, especially going back to my earlier comment about the lack of upper back resistance. It's selling dreams, akin to the shredded fitness models on TV talking about how they spend 15 minutes a day on an elliptical. Sure they do, but they also workout another two hours a day doing weights and intervals and exclusively eat broccoli and chicken.A five star training book for me is one that I can hand to a layman and it will progress him or her through their journey to better fitness, typically starting at zero and taking someone to the intermediate level. Bodyweight Strength Training Anatomy qualifies as one, as does Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training, 3rd edition (if you have access to a barbell).I disagree wholeheartedly with the notion that "something is better than nothing", because people starting fitness regimes under false pretenses (you can look like the cover photo!) who don't see the results they want (no suspension for the back) end up quitting and get jaded thinking fitness is some foreign custom that doesn't come naturally to them.I'm keeping this book on my shelf, but it's honestly not one I would hand off and say "follow what's in this book, don't get creative, just do everything it says."

The Kindle version cuts off the fit pro workouts and I cant read them even in full screen.

This is the ultimate no-excuses workout book, it guides you through every day of your new workout regimen and cuts down all the reasons you can find not to do it.Don't have time to workout? All workouts are 15 minutes or less. Can't afford a gym/don't have special equipment? You don't need it, all exercises use only your own body weight and gravity. Exercises too hard/too easy to get started? Don't worry - there are three levels of intensity, and periodic fitness tests keep you on the right level. Get burnt out working out too much? There are built-in break days. Have a hard time staying motivated? Pro-tips from the trainer keep you going.

I was skeptical that a 10-15 minute workout each day could be effective, but after just 2 weeks I was amazed at the progress. This book is easy to follow, with great outlines for each exercise. Best of all, these exercises can be done anywhere! For someone like me who travels, needs a time efficient workout, and benefits from a guide to keep me on task every step of the way, this book has been perfect. I am doing the Weekend Warrior program and plan to repeat with Fit Pro for another 120 days.

Finally, a no nonsense path to fitness for all ages. The best and clearest book I've ever read for those who prefer to work out at home.

Working my way through this. I have back problems so some of this I can't do, but a lot of it is great!

Very good. Wish I had been doing this kind of core work 20 years ago. I originally bought the kindle version, but I liked it so much I got the paperback also. Additionally I found it so much more easier to find different exercises with the paperback.

I really enjoy these workouts so far. I’m not a fan of going to the gym. My only complaint is some of the illustrations aren’t very clear on how to do certain motions. Found it helpful to look up a YouTube video from time to time to see the form in motion.

Good concept, however very poorly designed. I guess some dates just didn’t seem as important to the designer being as the have certain dates cover with cartoons (hope you don’t have more then one friend or family member with any of those dates).. doesn’t make much sense. I wouldn’t recommend this product. And I wouldn’t purchase again.

I hated having to go through the calendar every year to put in all the birthdays, trying not to miss any. This is the solution. This is the calendar that you keep, just for keeping all the birthdays and other anniversaries on. It's not for daily events like "Soccer game 6:30" - just for annual things that are on the same date each year. This does not have the days of the week, nor a year; just the dates. If you put something like "Fred's birthday, born 1997" on March 20th, it stays there - and year after year, you'll see it there - this is not a calendar that becomes obsolete on Dec. 31st - it is, to borrow a gardening term, a "Perennial".Any big family needs one of these to keep track of all the cousins, nieces and nephews, and everybody. My only (minor) complaint - why is called "Mom's"? I'm the Dad in my family, and *I* bought this for our family use!

I LOVE the Sandra Boynton desk planner and have used it for years. This is the perfect birthday calendar, is easy to use, and compliments the planner perfectly!

Absolutely love this calendar this is second time I’ve ordered it my first one fell apart definitely would recommend to people easier to reference birthdays for each month it’s great Even anniversary’s.

I have used the same piece of poster board planner for birthdays, anniversaries, and other memorable family dates for 15 years. Never realized there was a "Birthday calendar" available. This is a wonderful tool and I think it would be great as a wedding gift so the new bride would know about "special" family dates.

Gave as a gift for my youngest daughter who has 10 children. I filled in all the family 'B'days & anniversaries for her for a jump start. She loved it.

Love how this is the birthday, special occasion calendar that NEVER has to come down and keeps me remembering family and friends' special days.

I like the size. The slick paper is difficult to write on.

The “Let It Be,” sessions resulted in the Beatles last film which is, to be honest, a tough watch for fans. Although it was going to be the Beatles filmed while recording an album, ending with the finale of a wonderful, life affirming concert (Director Michael Lindsay Hogg envisioned an amphitheatre in Tunisia, possibly with a dawn start, until realising the band would still be in bed at that time and Ringo, having disliked Indian food was not keen to try Tunisian cuisine…), the result was a band disintegrating in front of the cameras, with their final concert seeing them going no further than the roof of their Savile Row Apple offices…That said, the Rooftop Concert, as it came to be, misleadingly, known (the author of this book suggests it was more a live recording session, with more than one version of some songs) is joyous and you can hear, and see, that the band are enjoying themselves. Plus, the earlier recording sessions did result in more bootlegged material than anything else in the Beatles career, so it did leave fans with some worthwhile material, to be endlessly mined and pored over.In this book, we are taken from the end of 1968, through to the rooftop performance on January 30th, 1969. There is some good detail on the formation of Apple and the purchase of the building in Savile Row, along with a brief history of the building and the area, for those who are not familiar with it. As Apple Corps went into freefall, and the band fragmented, they were obliged to try to make business ventures work. However, as the band fell apart, both Lennon and McCartney were heavily involved in their most intense romantic relationships, with Yoko Ono and Linda Eastman. Linda, who would marry Paul in March of that year, was pregnant with their first child (Paul would adopt her young daughter, Heather), while John and Yoko would also tie the knot within a couple of months of the Beatles last live appearance. Yoko’s appearances at the recording studio caused continuing tension within the band, as did Lennon’s increased use of heroin; making him often distant, uncommunicative and disinterested. From the start of filming at Twickenham studios, on January 2nd, 1969, it was clear that both the studio (cold and vast), and the stress of being constantly filmed, were not conducive to making music. The author suggests that going early in the morning may have reminded the Beatles of their early years when they commuted to work. Actually, the only Beatle who ever held a proper job for a long period, was Ringo, who did three years of an apprenticeship. George and Paul held short term jobs, but John only managed a few weeks as a labourer before being sacked, so I am not convinced that commuting was something they were too familiar with. Certainly, early mornings were not something they were that keen on either, but they all seemed initially interested in the idea of developing new material and, indeed, on the concept of a concert. It is interesting to hear from many of the people who worked on the filming, or at Apple, or who were involved in events at some point in the story (including some of the police who traipsed along to Apple after complaints about the noise, and those who were lucky enough to be around and witness the impromptu concert). However, at the start in Twickenham, with no Brian, or George Martin, to set them down to work, the Beatles retreated into oldies; procrastinating, jamming and bickering. When George walked out, John unkindly suggested replacing him with Eric Clapton (apparently, when told this later, Clapton retorted that the Beatles were far too unpleasant to each other for his liking).Things improved with a move to the basement at Apple and the intelligent suggestion, by a returned George, that Billy Preston (who they had first met in Hamburg and who was in London playing with Ray Charles) be invited along. As Lennon later admitted, a ‘guest,’ meant that everyone was on their best behaviour and things in the studio improved. Despairing of his amphitheatre venue, you sense that Michael Lindsay-Hogg was just grateful that the Beatles agreed to climb up to the roof and perform. Even at the last minute, even this was in doubt, until John took the lead and led the band out onto the chilly rooftop. The performance ended with John’s line, “I’d like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we passed the audition.” Ironic, indeed, especially had he known the building had been previously owned by one of the directors of Decca – who had rejected the band back in 1962.This book is full of such nuggets. The author weaves in all the current news stories, events going on at the same time, funny comments, reminiscences and memories. The Beatles never performed together again, despite endless offers. Perhaps it is just as well but, either way, it was a great performance and they certainly did pass the audition!

This is a marvelous little book about one of the great highlights of the Beatles late career . The book is very well researched and very well written . The reader is given all the lead up and background , all the disintegration and bickering as the group fell apart but also the pride they had in being the Beatles . This rooftop concert and the album Abbey Road are the group’s last two triumphs .

I've probably read a hundred Beatle books and fewer than 10% have really stood out. This will join the list of favorites, in part because it's so tightly focused. While some might see the what-else-was-going-on-in-the-world stuff as extraneous, I'd heartily disagree. Barrell does a wonderful job of establishing context both in the big world and within the extraordinary quartet playing their very last gig together. Fifty years on, the building – now an Abercrombie for Kids store – is still recognizably where it all happened, and Barrell's writing makes it easy to imagine having been on Savile Row at lunchtime on January 30, 1969. (One small quibble: it's clear that a lot of research and fact-checking went into this book, but early on there's a reference to Senator Robert Kennedy being assassinated on June 10, 1968. The tragedy took place four days earlier than that.)

This is a good book filled lots of little details about the Get Back sessions and the events leading up to the rooftop "concert." I've read a ton of Beatle book and there was some info in here I had never read before. Seems well researched, including info gathered from first-hand accounts by people who were there at Twickenham Studios, the Apple building and studio, on the rooftop during the event, and on the street below. The only fault I had with the book was the numerous times Mr. Barrell would wander off course offering details of events that had no relevance whatsoever to the Beatles or the rooftop concert. I assume he was trying to put the events into "historical context" but to me the technique didn't work well. Perhaps citing some of those events in the prologue or first chapter might work fine, but to keep inserting them awkwardly into the middle of the Beatles story came across more as a distraction than a historical framework. I would still recommend the book however. There are enough tidbits and little-known story details here to forgive a few distractions.

Nice bookNothing startling if you are a Beatles fan and have read a lot and listen to interview

Excellently researched, complete story of The Beatles as a band and as individuals in their late days - the context for the rooftop performance and the prelude to Abbey Road.

I did like all the minutiae the author included as to what was going on in London around the time of the show.

Definitely leaves you feeling that you know exactly what the lucky few experienced. My what wouldn't I give to have been there
